My courses concentrate on teaching a range of techniques which include advice on composition, colour, choice of paper, paint etc enabling each pupil to fulfil their potential, whether they have painted before or not.
Maximum students in the class will be six ensuring that each individual receives personal attention.
Unless specified, all courses take place at Threave Garden, near Castle Douglas. If you’re attending one of our courses, please consider staying at the Craigadam Country House Hotel.

“I had not had an art lesson since I was at school (45 years ago!) and at that time was told that I was not good at art. Recently retired, I decided to take a three day course on flower painting with Mary Clare. I was a bit nervous on arrival but was made very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed the course. Mary – Clare is a very effective teacher. She creates a relaxed atmosphere where you learn by doing. Mary Clare knows just when to give help and when to leave you to paint.To my delight I was producing flower paintings that I am proud of by the end of the 3 days. I have continued to paint since Mary Clare’s course and am definitely “hooked” I would recommend one of Mary – Clare’s courses without reservation”
