Mary-Clare Cornwallis was born and educated in Kent. Although her first loves were art and the theatre she trained as a teacher and owned and ran a thriving nursery and pre-prep school in South London before training to become a member of the growing number of talented British watercolour artists.
Despite having no formal training she has exhibited at the Sloane Club, the Lennox Gallery and The Gallery in Cork Street in London, the McGill-Duncan Gallery in Scotland and the Oriel Gallery in Brisbane, Australia.
She has steadily built up an ever increasing clientele for her decorative and botanical watercolours. Her first mentors were Archie Sutter-Watt and Valerie Sadler in Scotland and more recently as she developed her botanical work she has studied under british watercolour artists Anne-Marie Evans, Mariella Baldwin, Rosie Sanders and Evelyn Binns.
She regularly contributes to various exhibitions in Scotland and England and outside the UK. Her work can be found in collections in Australia, France and South America. She now lives and paints full time in South West Scotland and draws on the beautiful natural surroundings of her home for her inspiration.
